Residential Building Expands Oppenheim Architecture’s Portfolio of Work in Atlanta’s Vibrant West Midtown

Stella at Star Metals, the third building in Atlanta’s Star Metals District designed by Oppenheim Architecture, is now open. Rising 22 stories in West Midtown, Stella continues the firm’s decade-long contribution to shaping the once-industrial neighborhood into a vibrant residential and cultural district. The completed neighborhood will feature six thoughtfully designed buildings by Oppenheim Architecture.

Echoing the site’s warehouse heritage, Stella’s façade features a grid-like rhythm of windows wrapped in luminous copper cladding. The material selection and palette tie the building to the design language of the larger district while creating a new neighborhood landmark. At street level, recessed corners create a soaring 52-foot entry that leads into a multi-level lobby. Higher up, a dramatic sky lounge offers panoramic views of downtown Atlanta, and stepped terraces add landscaped spaces where views of the skyline and the surrounding neighborhood can also be enjoyed.

“Stella is the latest expression of our firm’s ongoing exploration of architecture as a reflection of place,” says Chad Oppenheim, Founding Principal of Oppenheim Architecture. “Through our partnership with the Allen Morris Company, we have created a thriving destination in Atlanta’s West Midtown, and we look forward to continuing our shared vision as the Star Metals neighborhood evolves with new projects.”

Stella houses 327 residences ranging from studios to penthouses. Amenities include a hotel-style lobby, rooftop pool and lounge, fitness facilities, a screening room, and access to curated restaurants, bars, and retail spaces. The design encourages interaction between residents and the neighborhood, with public amenities at the ground level that activate and enrich the street life of West Midtown.

With its distinctive copper façade, engaging public spaces, and expansive residential offerings, Stella at Star Metals elevates the architectural identity of West Midtown, adding to the continued growth of the Star Metals District. Exemplifying Oppenheim Architecture’s core philosophy of site-contextual design, the project marks an important step in the evolution of the Atlanta neighborhood.
