Nutrition Firm Boosted by New Office Designs
THE UK’s fastest growing sports and active nutrition brand is set to open a new 84,000 sq ft headquarters, designed by Building Design [Northern] (BDN).
Applied Nutrition, which is based in Knowsley, Liverpool, will open its new purpose-designed facility a stone’s throw from its existing base, after working with North East headquartered architect and engineering practice, BDN, to model a building that will act as its global distribution centre as well as providing additional office space for its growing team.
The business – which was floated on the London Stock Exchange in 2024 – contracted BDN, which is headquartered in Sunderland with a second base in Ulverston, to undertake civil and structural engineering and full architectural design services for the modern new base, working closely with Applied Nutrition’s CEO and founder, Thomas Ryder, and chief operating officer Steven Granite during the design phase. The firm will continue to work with the construction contractor as the build proceeds.
Joe Warner, architecture director at BDN, said: “This was a fantastic project for us to work on, with an ambitious business lead by a team who have a really clear vision for the future.
“It was a challenging scheme, with lots of constraints, particularly in achieving the bio net gains required to achieve planning consent, but we were able to design plans and build in mitigations that will enable the business to deliver a site that meets their requirements, delivers on BNG requirements and can be delivered within budget. It will be a brilliant facility for the growing team at Applied Nutrition to continue to thrive.”
The development delivers new warehousing capacity, and will support improved fulfilment speed and operational efficiency, ensuring Applied Nutrition is positioned to scale alongside expanding retail partnerships and global e-commerce growth.
BDN – which delivered the project out of its Ulverston base, which serves clients in the North West – has built up an enviable client base, working with household brand names like B&Q and The Body Shop to design retail stores, as well as having particular strengths in the design of manufacturing and logistics hubs like Applied Nutrition’s new base.
