J Foster Architects completes £100k ‘tardis-like’ infill extension

J Foster Architects has taken the wraps off this underground extension to a house in Highgate, North London.

The £100,000 ‘room for a musician’ creates a trio of subterranean spaces designed to rid the client’s duplex flat of its damp and poorly lit master bedroom.

A redundant side section of the garden has been excavated to create a 6m2 glazed, internal lightwell – a space for the client to compose and practice music.

The extension flows out to the garden via a level threshold and glazed pivot door which lead onto new external steps.
