Two National Awards for The Headland’s New £10m Aqua Club

The Headland’s spectacular new Aqua Club has recently been awarded two prestigious awards at the national UK Pool & Spa Awards 2020.

Now in its 10th year, the awards ceremony highlights the very best examples of pool and spa design from across the country.

The winners were announced during a virtual presentation that attracted over 2,000 on-line votes and votes from judges, before being scrutinised by an independent jury.

The new £10 million development at the iconic five-star Newquay hotel was voted both Health & Wellness Project of the Year as well as Commercial Pool Project of the Year.

The judges were particularly impressed by the overall quality of design, build and technical specification as well as the number of separate swimming pools within a single complex. The Aqua Club features six pools, a sun terrace with impressive ocean views, and a stunning new restaurant named The Deck.

The building was designed by Truro-based architects Lilly Lewarne, the complex of pools by Aqua Platinum, and it combines a 25-metre pool, a hydrotherapy pool and a children’s splash pool in an undercover inside area. Matt Hulme, Dynargh Design, helped with the interiors. Outside, a heated sunset spa, encircled by an ocean front edge pool, enables visitors to immerse themselves in the beautiful surroundings and relax while taking in stunning Atlantic views.

A further outdoor vitality pool, complete with a large Cornish granite menhir sourced by Amanda Judson, provides a focal point to release the stresses and strains of everyday life.

“We were delighted the Aqua Club was recognised twice in these prestigious annual awards,” said Director and co-owner Carolyn Armstrong.

“It offers top-of-the-range facilities to our guests and takes The Headland into the next decade and beyond, providing the luxury experience that the destination has become well-known for,” she added.

In addition to the hotel’s two awards, Aqua Platinum Projects, who were the main contractors on the Aqua Club project, were awarded the ‘Pool Contractor of the Year 2020’.

The Aqua Club is the latest phase in an ambitious programme of development at The Headland, which is about to celebrate 43 years under the ownership of John and Carolyn Armstrong.
