GILES MILLER STUDIO

Giles Miller Studio creates site-specific, sensory-driven art installations that span the realms of hospitality, retail, residential architecture and even fine jewellery and works on paper. Clients include global names such as Hermès, Stella McCartney, Omega, BBC Studios, British Airways, Hilton Park Lane and Raffles Singapore.

Giles Miller Studio was invited to participate in a competitive tender to conceive a large-scale public artwork near the Champs-Élysées in Paris. The brief sought a piece that would inject energy, inspiration and a distinctive sensory experience into the daily lives of the thousands of people who pass the wall where it would be installed. The client’s ambition was to commission a work that was not only monumental in scale but profound in impact.

In response, the studio envisioned a piece that would transform dynamically depending on the viewer’s position, the time of day and the ambient light. This interactivity—subtle, yet ever-present—embodied the studio’s commitment to sensory engagement and place-making through visual art. L’Envol was born as an immersive, responsive sculpture: one that shifts with each encounter, offering an evolving experience to its audience.

Ceramic was the natural choice of material—an enduring medium that the studio has explored and celebrated for over 15 years. Crafted in partnership with trusted Italian ceramicists, the hand-made components of L’Envol carry an artisanal quality that can be both seen and felt. The mottled chrome glaze finish on each ceramic form not only reflects its environment but also distorts it, producing a poetic interaction between viewer, object and space.

L’Envol is more than a static artwork—it is a living mirror to its community. Its textured, reflective surface encourages photography and videography, capturing fleeting interactions and shifting moods. Whether encountered as a moment of surprise or a daily visual companion, the artwork offers continual moments of uplift and intrigue. Its very name, French for “The Flight,” speaks to its aspiration: to elevate.

The project’s scale and the number of stakeholders involved presented natural challenges. Uniting diverse interests and visions into one cohesive artistic outcome demanded both patience and shared commitment. With the support of a visionary client and the expert coordination of Artbliss in Paris, Giles Miller Studio was able to preserve creative integrity while ensuring the work remained accessible and meaningful to all.

L’Envol is a multisensory encounter. Its thousands of 3D ceramic elements engage the eye and the hand, echoing the fractal geometries of nature that evoke calm and harmony. The glistening chrome surface dances with light and shadow, while its form invites tactile curiosity and emotional resonance. It stands as a testament to the studio’s belief in the emotional power of material, light and form to elevate everyday experience.

Eyrie, Berkshire, 2025 Giles Miller Studio presents Eyrie, a sculptural pavilion commissioned for a new housing development at Reading Green Park. This piece was conceived as a sanctuary — a space offering calm and contemplation to residents and visitors overlooking the site’s serene lakeside, rich with wildlife and natural beauty. The client invited Giles Miller Studio to create a space that could offer rest, respite and reflection within a growing community. Inspired by the impact of a previous installation in the Surrey Hills, they tasked the studio with designing something both visually inspiring and practically valuable for everyday use — a structure that could enrich daily lives while fitting seamlessly into the natural surroundings.

The result is a striking pavilion composed of a sweeping steel framework, intricately adorned with thousands of timber ‘petals’. Each petal is an object of beauty in its own right, and together they form a swirling, rhythmic skin that envelops the space in movement, tactility and shifting shadow.

The sculptural façade achieves an elegant balance between openness and enclosure — while it offers privacy and intimacy to those inside, it has been deliberately designed with a level of transparency that helps discourage anti-social behaviour, ensuring the structure remains welcoming and safe for all.

Eyrie draws inspiration from the very landscape in which it sits. Its form echoes the fractals and natural geometries found in leaves, pinecones, and flower petals. The ‘skin’ of the structure shifts in tone and texture as it flows around the pavilion, resembling the organic transformation of a pinecone through its life cycle. This biomimicry invites visitors to engage with the structure as they would with the natural world — through exploration, curiosity and touch.

The timber petals are made from solid Abodo, a heat-treated wood specially developed for architectural applications in exposed outdoor environments. Chosen for its outstanding durability and environmental credentials, Abodo is sourced from rapidly renewable plantations. As a registered B Corp, Giles Miller Studio is committed to responsible sourcing and sustainable design, and Abodo’s low-impact production process aligns perfectly with these values.

Eyrie brings a powerful sensory and emotional dimension to Green Park. The warmth and tactility of the timber invite touch, while its natural scent and acoustic qualities soften the space. The organic composition of the pavilion fosters a deep biophilic connection — an innate sense of harmony with nature. As a result, Eyriebecomes more than a structure; it is a place where people can slow down and reconnect.

Fluenta, Singapore, 2025 Fluenta is a suspended sculptural centrepiece commissioned for the striking lobby of One Raffles Quay in Singapore. Giles Miller Studio created this piece to bring softness and reflection to a linear architectural context, and it succeeds by emerging as a moment of calm and wonder within the bustling commercial building.

Commissioned with the aim of introducing a contemplative focal point, Fluenta responds to the structured, planar architecture of the building’s interior. The brief challenged the studio to create an artwork that would evoke layered experiences and reveal itself gradually to visitors — offering a changing, sensory encounter as people move around the space.

The sculpture is composed of a delicately engineered matrix: a rhythmic field of rods arranged to hold penny-sized disc components oriented in one of two directions. This directional variation forms a subtle, wave-like tonal contrast across the surface of the work. The illusion of movement and shadow invites deeper inspection and emotional engagement, while simultaneously integrating harmoniously into its refined surroundings.

Taking inspiration from the nearby waterfront, Fluenta references the fluidity of tides and the meditative quality of water’s surface. Its elliptical silhouette and gentle visual modulation mirror the natural ebb and flow of the marina, offering viewers a sculptural echo of the landscape just beyond the building’s walls.

Suspended within the lobby’s impressive vertical space, Fluenta introduces tactility and organic softness — a deliberate contrast to the otherwise ordered, architectural environment. This interplay elevates both sculpture and setting: Fluenta punctuates the space, creating a meditative pause and offering a point of orientation and emotional depth for all who encounter it.

The sculpture is held aloft by a series of high-tensile wires, which discreetly extend the matrix’s vertical lines and give the piece an almost weightless presence. This careful installation allows Fluenta to appear as though it is floating — a delicate and precisely balanced intervention within a grand architectural frame.
