Alison Brooks, RCKa and Wright & Wright have been shortlisted for the design of a new events spaces at the Science Museum.

Duggan Morris and Originate complete the shortlist.

The conversion of the fourth and fifth floors into a large daytime event space is a key part of the museum’s plans to ensure its financial sustainability.

The brief requires the design to take advantage of the location’s views over London, creating unique, adaptable spaces which “reflect the spirit of the museum” and cater to individual clients’ needs.

The winning architect will be announced in July.

The practice will act as lead consultant and develop the scheme from RIBA stage 2 to stage 7. The Science Museum will appoint the remainder of the design team through the museum’s existing frameworks.

The Science Museum is creating a name for itself as an enlightened patron of architecture, with recent commissions given to Zaha Hadid Architects, Coffey Architects, HAT Projects and Wilkinson Eyre.
