KPF’s reworked plans for City of London tower in Aldgate revealed
KPF has submitted revised proposals for a new 19-storey tower in Bevis Marks in London’s Aldgate.
Backed by Fairplay Estates, the scheme, next to Foggo Associates’ proposed Can of Ham, replaces an earlier 16-storey concept for the site at 21-24 Bevis Marks on the eastern edge of the City’s high-rise cluster.
The design of the revised 29,264m² office building, which is aimed at small and medium-sized occupiers, is described as a ‘set of stacked objects’ featuring terraces and a sculpted roof.
According to the design and access statement, the scheme ‘takes inspiration from the scale of nearby brick buildings, and then combines them into an expressive mid-height building that, through it’s compositional design, plays a positive part to the City cluster in its eastern edge’.
The planning application explains how the current scheme has evolved from the previous approval for the site, which previously also included the neighbouring 19 Bevis Marks and 38-41 Houndsditch ‘in the expectation that agreements with their owners could be reached to have a consolidated, larger site’.
However, no deals could be agreed and, according to KPF, the revised scheme ‘seeks to apply the previously approved principles and evolve proposals for a slightly taller, more elegant office building’.
