Construction work on the new Seaview Colonnade has been completed in Sutton-on-Sea, marking significant progress in the east coast regeneration plans led by East Lindsey District Council (ELDC).

Designed by architectural practice CPMG and constructed by contractor G F Tomlinson, the project realises ELDC’s vision for a landmark contemporary pavilion to replace the existing, traditional colonnade.

The new development accommodates a variety of modern amenities, designed to enhance the quality of life for local residents and attract visitors through space for dining, cultural activity and socialising, as well as the inclusion of accessible WCs and changing spaces to ensure inclusivity and functionality.

Tom Rigley, associate at CPMG, said: “Through close collaboration with ELDC and the project team, we are pleased to have successfully contributed to the east coast regeneration programme in Sutton-on-Sea. The Seaview Colonnade development supports the local council’s vision for the area’s future, while satisfying Environmental Agency requirements.

“The design addresses the level changes between town and promenade frontages and provides internal spaces with striking 360-degree views. Material choices create an elegant landmark blending contemporary design and longevity given its exposed location, utilising a robust palette of materials including an aluminum roof, facing blockwork and curtain walling addressing the challenges posed by high winds and salt spray.”

Richard Hodgson, project sponsor and assistant director – strategic projects for South & East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership, said: “A huge amount of work has gone into ensuring that we are able to offer the best possible facilities and value for the public, while respecting and recognising the environment, community spirit and heritage that matter so much in the local area.

“Throughout the construction programme, our team worked closely with all project partners to ensure the new facilities were delivered to the highest quality of workmanship and remain suitable for the unique, scenic coastal surroundings.  It’s great to have the Colonnade open to allow residents and visitors to enjoy the space and its beautiful views of the beach and sea.”

The development scheme was supported by the Mablethorpe Connected Coast Town Deal, which was approved by the government to receive £4.2m of Town Deal funding, with the remaining costs funded directly by East Lindsey District Council.

Adrian Grocock, managing director at G F Tomlinson, said: “We are proud to have been involved in the significant redevelopment of this landmark cultural tourist attraction for Sutton-on-Sea, encouraging further investment into the eastern coastline.

“We have worked well with the wider project team to carefully manage enhancement of the existing structure, by delivering transformative elements that will provide tangible benefits to the local residents and visitors to the town.”

In addition to CPMG and G F Tomlinson, the project team included Alan Wood Associates, CPW, Influence and Brook and Mayo.

East Lindsey District Council’s Seaview Colonnade development was procured through the Medium Works Framework managed by Pagabo on behalf of contracting authority The Education Alliance.
