Maggie Mullan Architects blossoms with wildflower win

Maggie Mullan Architects has landed the job of masterplanning the National Wildflower Centre near Liverpool.

The other finalists were Purcell and K2. The competition was held after a more ambitious project, won six years ago by Ian Simpson, was mothballed.

It is a major boost for the fledgling practice founded after Mullan left Austin Smith Lord in Liverpool where she had been a partner.

Mullan said she was “thrilled”.

She added: “My strategy for the masterplan is ‘assimilation, reclamation, adaption and addition’.

“Incorporating CourtHey Park we will develop a strategy that will work with the spirit of the landscape and the building and realign it with the ideology of Landlife – a sustainable, resilient resource that will support social justice by not charging admission, by supporting the local community in food production, waste recycling and energy production, create an attraction with a year-long appeal.”

The study will last 18 weeks and identify funding sources and future development projects, she added.
