Pulsar light up Cosmopolitan Tower designed by Helmut Jahn in Warsaw, Poland
Cosmopolitan Tower is Warsaw’s premiere residential skyscraper (160 meters high, 44 storeys), in central Warsaw, Poland. It has 236 apartments, each with floor-to-ceiling windows, which provide panoramic views of Warsaw. The building also has a commercial level at ground level, three floors of offices, and a recreation area at level 4 for residents.
The tower was designed by architect Helmut Jahn, and developed by Tacit Investment. “To me, urban space is essential to architecture. All my buildings respond to the existing urban space, while creating it with their arrangement and rhythm” says Helmut Jahn. As part of his design, the tower has a red ceiling above level 4, this ceiling lighting provided a focal point on the main building within the landscape which is further enhanced by the linear sidewalk lighting and atrium lighting. The combined effect provides a key visual element from street level for residents enjoying the recreation area.
The CEO of Cosmopolitan Tower asked Pulsar to assist with lighting the tower. A building company had installed existing lights for the red ceiling. The location, colour and beam angle of the lights resulted in a poorly lit feature with hot spots, poor colour rendition and high operating costs.
Pulsar provided a well designed lighting scheme for the red ceiling, which took into account, desired effect, viewing angles (pedestrians and residents), operating costs and maintenance costs. The solution was 8 x ChromaFlood100R fixtures discretely mounted so as to be invisible to viewers, yet provide consistent illumination of the feature ceiling.
Pulsar also provided lighting for the tower’s exterior atrium (shown above in blue), using 12 ChromaFlood 200’s to provide lighting with infinite colour capabilities. These are changed to suit special occasions, seasons and time of day. Pulsar also integrated ChromaAR111TC fixtures into the sculpture “You and I” by artist Eran Shakine.
The whole system is controlled by Pulsar’s own Architectural grade controllers, making the system both user friendly and flexible at the same time.
