Stitch wins planning for new residential street West End Gardens in Northolt

Stitch has won planning for 15 homes for Ealing council on a backlands site in Northolt.

West End Gardens in Northolt replaces a terrace of four council maisonettes. System-built with Rima concrete panels, they were proving difficult and uneconomic to maintain to current building standards.

In their place will be built a new terrace of five council-owned houses for affordable rent.

Stitch has phased the project so the residents who are keen to stay together can move into their new homes before their existing ones are demolished.

Facing the houses will be 10 flats – a mix of shared ownership and private sale – all with direct access from the shared use street created by the architect on the backland suburban site.

The new homes, which have the support of the local community, back on to the existing back gardens of the surrounding properties. They are designed to optimise aspect without overlooking neighbouring properties, said Stitch director Sally Lewis.

“This small scheme is a bespoke response to a challenging site, breathing life into a forgotten corner of Northolt,” she said.

The project is due to start on site towards the end of the year.
