Superdurable Interpon powder coatings by AkzoNobel give Meshtec security screens an extended seal of approval

Superdurable Interpon powder coatings from AkzoNobel are enabling Meshtec, a Thailand-based manufacturer of external security screens for doors and windows, to offer its customers a guarantee on the performance of its products for a quarter of a century.

Meshtec, which has a respected reputation for the uncompromising performance of its products which protect against unwanted intrusion, is an Interpon D Approved Applicator. In using Interpon D2525, a superdurable powder coating, it can therefore warranty the integrity of the coated surface for up to 25 years.

Alongside the competitive advantage of extended warranties, Managing Director Nopporn Khunyotying says Meshtec chooses Interpon to address three specific challenges: “First, to accelerate the production process. Second, to better control our costs. And third, to support our commitment to sustainability by reducing waste and using smaller quantities of powder.”

The single coat application of AkzoNobel’s Interpon D powder coating enables Meshtec to significantly increase its line efficiency by coating more square meters of product with less powder. Every product Meshtec manufactures within its manufacturing facility in Chiang Mai, Thailand is finished with Interpon on one of two powder coating lines. The mesh and panels are typically coated black; the finished doors and windows can be coated in a range of different colors, depending on customer requirements.

Meshtec measures the performance of Interpon in its entirety. It looks at the cost per kilogram, rather than the price per kilogram, taking into account every factor including the efficiency of the application process, reduced waste, limited reworks, and repeat business from satisfied customers.

The company has to date produced more than one million square metres of stainless-steel mesh and a similar volume of perforated aluminum sheets. It also manufactures more than 200,000 completed doors and windows – a figure that will rise to 500,000 over the next few years. It exports to 25 countries, differentiating its products by their design-led superior quality and performance, supported by the consistency of the Interpon powder coating finish.

Sustainability is the engine that is driving future innovation within AkzoNobel, in the products it develops and the services it delivers. To that end, Nopporn welcomes the support he receives from AkzoNobel’s Interpon Technical Services team. Meshtec has started using a Chrome Free treatment and is exploring how some of Interpon D’s latest low energy (Low-E) powder coatings may be to his advantage.

Having early insight into new products and innovations, alongside additional technical training and support, are among the principal benefits Meshtec enjoys from being an Interpon Approved Applicator. The business is regularly audited to AkzoNobel’s own stringent quality criteria which in turn helps ensure it continues to meet global architectural standards to support new business growth.

Şirvan Canıtez, Commercial Director South Asia, AkzoNobel Powder Coatings says: “With the support of the AkzoNobel team, the quality of our powder coatings, and the consistency of their performance over the longer term, we are helping Meshtec to compete on a global scale, building the trust its customers are looking for to protect what is most important to them – their businesses, homes and families.”
