Telford Homes have launched a new luxury residential development on the Isle of Dogs in London, named The Liberty Building.

The scheme has been designed by award winning architectural practice tp bennett. Overlooking the iconic landscape of Canary Wharf and at the heart of a thriving community, the scheme comprises 155 homes, 51 of which are affordable. 26 storeys at its highest point, and 83m high, this project makes a bold and positive contribution to this junction site within London’s Docklands.

Intrinsic to the building design was the sites’ existing urban and historic context, and the use of brick responds to both the 19th century warehouses and the traditional housing in the surrounding area, and further develops the modern aesthetic developing locally. The building is comprised of four vertical elements stepping from 6 to 26 storeys, addressing the differing scale between the contemporary and existing contexts.

The 155 residential units are organised around two integrated yet independently accessible cores and include one, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as a unique penthouse. All apartments also include a private balcony or terrace as well as use of a private residents’ gymnasium. The public realm was a key focus in the design of this building to support the wellbeing of residents and the wider community, with semi-mature trees and running water creating a space accessible to all, at this meeting point of three existing roads.

Nick Hirst, Principal Director at tp bennett commented:

“We wanted to create a building that would enhance this part of London’s Docklands, addressing Cross Harbour Station and bringing structure to the surrounding townscape with a new public space. The clean-cut forms and material selection have sought to tie together the multiple local contexts, with the new open space placed at the heart of the pedestrian realm.”
