UN BRIN D’SOLEIL, Suspended Artwork in the Heart of Winter
Latrompette Studio
Winners / Call for Proposals by Invitation from the Société de développement de l’Avenue du Mont-Royal.
Stéphanie Leduc and Manuel Baumann from EN TEMPS ET LIEU studio, winners of the Société de développement de l’Avenue du Mont-Royal’s request for proposals for the creation of a winter art installation suspended over an iconic location in Montreal, have delivered a beautiful, bold, and stunning piece of art.
UN BRIN D’SOLEIL hangs over Place des Fleurs-de-Macadam like a vibrant, ever-changing sun whose colourful, blossoming rays high above cut through the harshness of winter days, or like an asphalt-born flower unfurling endlessly above our heads, while carrying the promise of the coming spring.
The lit artwork serves as an exploration in motion of a series of organic, geometric paintings emanating warm, cold, and intermediate hues, each conveying a plethora of emotions. UN BRIN D’SOLEIL is visible from afar once dusk falls and invites passersby to take in its embrace and experience a visual, sensory experience that promotes contemplation.
The artwork is made of 32 aluminum and acrylic “rays” mounted on a rigid frame, attached to two suspension cables. Each tube features a digital LED strip with independently configurable pixels, which provides significant flexibility in terms of light control. This, in turn, offers a wide array of options for visual compositions and animations.
