DMWR Architects turns 60
DMWR Architects is celebrating its milestone 60th anniversary as a practice.
Founded in 1963 by Douglas Haig Marriott, Leonard Phillip Worby and Derek Leonard Robinson, the practice has now grown significantly with three studios in London, Manchester and Hertfordshire and a team of over 65 working across eight sectors of expertise.
Known for its strong reputation in architectural design and delivery, DMWR has been involved in some iconic buildings over the past six decades. From the legendary 35 storey Millbank Tower that kickstarted the practice in 1963 and at the time was the tallest building in London, surpassing St Paul’s Cathedral by seven metres to the International Maritime Organisation HQ on Albert Embankment opened by Queen Elizabeth II. The iconic twin towers of Pan Peninsula in London’s Millharbour to the mighty 100,000 sq. m. Columbus Tower in West India Quay; Moonraker building for Unite, Sainsbury’s Whitechapel and Holloway Road and Barbican Conservatory to name a few.

John Neale, Senior Director of DMWR Architects joined the practice in 1986 as a Part 2 Architecture Graduate. He comments, “Over the past 60 years we have seen many changes in our business with a steady growth into new sectors including high rise mixed use development, PSBA, BTR and industrial.
“We have also seen the integration into the CHQ Group which has further stabilised us and ensured our longevity. As we continue to grow and expand into new markets we are in a very strong and exciting position.”
